Free Low Income Tax Clinic

Get your income tax filed at the library! CRA registered volunteers will file your taxes online. Drop your forms off during library open hours, or book an appointment to file in person. Appointments are available on select Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays in March and April. This program is open to all low-income residents in Digby County. Please contact the library for more information.

Community Play Group

Families with children five and younger can join library and Shelburne Family Resource Centre staff for a variety of free play, songs, games and story time at the library.

Author Reading: Sarah Emsley

Join author Sarah Emsley for a discussion of her novel The Austens. The book focuses on the friendship between Jane Austen and her sister-in-law Fanny. Fanny lived in Halifax with her husband at the time when Jane was in England, writing Pride and Prejudice. In this program, Sarah will read from The Austens and discuss the true story that inspired it. Questions from the audience are welcome. Please register by contacting the library by April 7. Registration is preferred but not required. About Sarah Emsley: Sarah received her PhD from Dalhousie University. She had a research position at the Rothermere American Institute and at the University of Oxford. She has also taught classes on Jane Austen in the Writing Program at Harvard University. She now lives in Halifax with her family.

Exhibit: Needle in Hand, Felt It

This exhibit consists of needle felted art made by Wendy Mellor! Needle felting is an art form that uses a felting needle to punch wool together to make pictures or objects. Wendy was born and raised in St. Bernard, Nova Scotia. She has made crafts for most of her life. This includes ceramics, cross stitch, tole painting, macrame, knitting and also needle felting. Stop by the branch to view Wendy's art during branch open hours from April 1 to 30, 2026.

Free Seed Library

The library will be bring back it's free seed library just in time for seed starting season! Visit any of our 10 branches to find a selection of seeds to choose from. After growing, give seed saving a try and donate them back to the library. Seed donations are encouraged. Envelopes are available to place seeds in and label.
