Western Counties Regional Library is seeking volunteers to sit on its library accessibility committee to help identify, prevent and eliminate barriers in its library branches.

The committee will play a pivotal role in helping the library become accessible, and in compliance with Nova Scotia’s Accessibility Act, passed in 2017 to make Nova Scotia inclusive and barrier-free by 2030.

“With the help of committee volunteers, our library will develop an accessibility plan that will make our libraries a place for everyone,” says Erin Comeau, Executive Director of Western Counties Regional Library. “We recognize the value of first-voice input from people with disabilities.”

Committee members will help shape the library’s accessibility policies and practices. This will make the library a place for everyone, Comeau says. Members will attend 3 meetings per year. Volunteers are paid to attend meetings.

The deadline to apply is Wednesday, Jan. 7. Online and downloadable applications can be found here: https://westerncounties.ca/western-counties-regional-library-accessibility-committee/.

Applications can be dropped of at any branch of Western Counties Regional Library or emailed to outreach@westerncounties.ca.
