Locally Harvested Herbs

Various sprigs of herbs spread out on a wooden table. There is a spindle of white string and a pair of scissors to tie the herbs with.

Many useful culinary plants grow around us in Nova Scotia. They are often unnoticed along roadsides, in fields, and even in our own backyards. This presentation introduces some of the most common local herbs that can support wellness and food security.

Learn how to:

  • Safely recognize a selection of plants
  • How they are traditionally used in kitchens and home herbal practices
  • Simple ways you can incorporate them into teas, broths, and basic remedies.

The focus is on practical knowledge that helps people reconnect with the plants already present in their landscape. The session will include visual examples, discussion of safe use, and time for questions. No prior herbal knowledge is required.

Please contact the branch by March 21 to register. Registration is preferred but walk-ins welcome! This program is made possible by the Food Security Initiative Grant.
