Introduction
This policy gives information on what the library does with donated items.
Donating Items
Books, DVDs and Blu-Ray discs can be donated to the library. This can be done at any branch.
The library gets a lot of donations. Staff cannot tell people what happens to an item that is donated. Staff cannot give back a donated item. The library does not accept all donations.
The library does accept these items:
- Books that were published in the last 5 years
- Local history books
- DVD in the original package
- Blu-Ray discs in the original package
- New editions of classic books
The library does not accept these items:
- Reader’s Digests
- Magazine
- Encyclopedias
- Textbooks
- Damaged items
- Old technology like VHS cassettes or audio cassettes
- Donations of more than 25 items
Decision About Donations
The library decides what to do with donations.
Trained library staff decide if an item can be put in the library. They follow the Développement et entretien des collections policy. This says what items can be added to the collection.
The library sells items they do not add to the collection in book sales. Some donations are thrown away or recycled.
