People with a perceptual disability, as defined in the Canadian Copyright Act, are able to access services for people with a print disability. A perceptual disability could be any of the following. <\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span>Blindness<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>Visual impairment<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>Learning disability<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>Reading disability<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>Physical disability<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span>People with a print disability can use special services. These come from 2 groups.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The Centre for Equitable Library Access (CELA)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The National Network for Equitable Library Service (NNELS)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>These groups have books in different accessible formats. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>People need to be a library member to use these services. They can also use any items that are in the library collection.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>People have to fill out a form to use NNELS. The form states that the person has a print disability. A parent or guardian can complete the form for a child. It can also be completed by someone with signing authority for an adult.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>People do not need to fill out a form to access CELA. People may complete a proof of disability form to get access to additional services through CELA. This form must be signed by a competent authority. A competent authority is one of the following: <\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span>Doctor<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>Eye doctor<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>Nurse<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>Therapist<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>Special education teacher<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>Social worker<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>Caseworker<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>Counselor<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span>Library management reserves the right to verify eligibility for CELA and NNELS service from a competent authority.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><\/p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][\/et_pb_section]<!-- \/wp:post-content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Member with a Print Disability Someone with a print disability has trouble reading books. Individuals must have a library membership card in order to access CELA and NNELS. Members with a Print Disability are eligible to borrow any format from our collection in addition to the services provided by CELA and NNELS.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>In order to access NNELS library service, patrons must complete a self-declaration form or have it completed by an adult with signing authority on their behalf.
